About Overland Kailash Tour
The Overland Kailash tour through Kerung (new border point) is the most popular one among all. It is shorter, easier, economic and time saving. In terms of acclimatization process, this Kailash tour by overland provides a systematic gain of the altitude with rest at the proper places with right timing. This is why, more and more people prefer to this 10-day Kailash tour by overland (both way).
The first part of the proposed 10-day Kailash tour by overland with Manasarovar starts
first, from Kathmandu taking you through the Kathmandu-Pokhara Highway and gets diverted to Trishuli (new route to Trishuli) via Galchi. Or, you may be driven by the Tokha road and meet the main road at Trishuli. From Trishuli township, an uphill drive starts taking you all the way to the border using the same route used by the trekkers to the Langtang valley area up to Syabrubesi. It is so scenic that you will remain busy in your photography all around
After the border formalities on both the Nepal and Tibet sides, you are required to change the vehicle to the Tibetan ones. At the border, our Nepali guide hands you over to Tibetan guide and driver with a formal introduction. They will meet you and welcome to their vehicle and will drive to the hotel/guest house in Kerung township where you will have overnight with full rest for acclimatization.
Next day, your drive will be through the Tibetan plateau where you will encounter a completely different landscape with rugged-sandy-graveled topography. Green vegetation is so rare with hardy plants where you will see yaks and sheep grazing. Your route involves overnight in Dzongba and then in Manasarovar
During the Kailash tour by overland, your first encounter with Manasarovar is overwhelmingly magnificent with the Mt Kailash on its back drop. The following morning will keep religious people busy in organizing a dip/bath in the lake and ‘puja’ on its bank. Strolling around with a visit to Chiu Gompa is quite interesting and rewarding. In the afternoon, you will be driven to Darchen, a base camp for the circumambulation (parikrama or kora) around Mt Kailash.
After your careful preparation, you will be driven to Tarboche from where your walk starts. This is the core part of Kailash tour. The scenery side by side with the mighty presence of Mt Kailash on your right is always accompanying you till the end of the kora. The high pass of Droma La (5,650 m) is a challenge to all on the second day of the kora. Comparatively, the second day is the longest and toughest one in all sense, while the third day is easier and shorter as you are picked up after about a 3-hour walk by our vehicles and driven back to Manasarovar for your nice rest and recapitulation of the trip.
Our way back journey starts from Manasarovar the same way back to Kathmandu with stops at Saga and Kerung. This is why, next special feature of this Kailash tour by overland is that even if some of the participants do not feel well and miss the scenery around in the first part of the tour on the way to Kailash, they can enjoy the same scenery on their way back after getting better acclimatized. This way, you are not going to miss any thing.
On the 8th day of the tour, the circumambulation around Mt Kailash with a visit to Manasarovar gets complete. Then after, the last 3 days easily take us back to Kathmandu.
